January 3, 2:00-4:00 p.m.: The Last Vermeer (2019)
In the aftermath of the Second World War, a soldier investigates famous Dutch artist Han van Meegeren, who is accused of collaboration. He soon suspects that van Meegeren may not be guilty as charged… but guilty of a completely different crime. This visually stunning film explores the pursuit of wealth and progress in China. Tilda Swinton plays an academic who discovers a Djinn (Idris Elba) while in Istanbul. He offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. She is doubtful and wary so he attempts to beguile her with stories of his colorful past life. George Miller (Mad Max) directed this fanciful tale based on a short story by A.S. Byatt. Relive David Bowie’s 54-year musical journey with this kaleidoscope of performances, interviews, and candid moments.
