Opening Reception – Honoring Giants of the Community: A Juneteenth Community Art and Oral History Exhibit

Join us for an opening reception hosted by The Village Initiative, to celebrate the contributions of community leaders, Dr J. Blaine Blayton and Mrs. Bessie Gerst, who were honored by the community through a collaborative art and oral history project during The Village Initiative’s 2022 Juneteenth Freedom Celebration. This exhibit is the result of a partnership between The Village Initiative’s Local Black Histories Project and William & Mary Distinguished Artist, Steve Prince. The exhibit showcases Dr. Blayton and Mrs. Gerst’s contributions through oral history and art created by the community.

The Honoring Giants of the Community: A Juneteenth Community Art and Oral History Exhibit runs through February 28, 2023 and is open during library hours.
