Join us in-person or on Zoom for this month’s discussion of The Promise, by Damon Galgut. During South Africa’s apartheid era, a dying woman promises her black maid a significant legacy. When surviving family members repeatedly ignore or reject the bequest, the family splinters. Galgut follows the thoughts and deeds of each member in language reflecting a fractured country struggling with its history.
