The Throwback Thursday Film Series screens a variety of classic and contemporary movies for an adult audience. All films are shown in the Williamsburg Library Theatre.

May 4, 2:00-3:45 pm: The Long Riders (1980)
Walter Hill directed this action-packed western about the exploits of the James-Younger gang in the 1860s-70s. The stunt casting of having four sets of actor brothers is remarkably effective. James and Stacy Keach portray Jesse and Frank James with David and Keith Carradine as Cole and Jim Younger. Ry Cooder provided the evocative soundtrack. R 1 hr 40 min
May 11, 2:00-3:40 pm: Ride the High Country (1962)
An aging ex-sheriff (Joel McCrea) and his old partner (Randolph Scott) are hired to transport a shipment of gold through dangerous territory. Along the way, they encounter a woman on the run from her beau’s criminal family and a heartbreaking betrayal. Sam Peckinpah directed this popular, well-regarded western. NR 1 hr 34 min
May 18, 2:00-4:15 pm: The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
Clint Eastwood directed and stars in this outstanding western about a Civil War soldier fleeing to Texas after becoming a wanted man for avenging the murder of his family. Along the way he picks up a motley group of outcasts looking to him for protection. The film costars Sondra Locke and Chief Dan George. PG 2 hr 15 min
May 25, 2:00-4:15 pm: True Grit (1969)
John Wayne won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of ornery, hard-drinking U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn. Cogburn and a Texas Ranger (Glen Campbell) help a teenage girl (Kim Darby) track down the man who murdered her father. Henry Hathaway directed from a screenplay based on the book by Charles Portis.
